About

Based in Stockholm, Katha emerged from the creative vision of two designers passionate about merging contemporary aesthetics with traditional craftsmanship. Founded as a collaborative space, our venture thrives on producing bespoke, limited editions of furniture and lifestyle products.

At Katha, we pride ourselves on working with a carefully curated group of international designers, fostering a commitment to quality and craftsmanship. Our unique work ethic places designers at the forefront, challenging conventional compensation models to ensure they reap the full benefits of their creations.

Our collections are timeless expressions of the synergy between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary aesthetics. Operating within limited editions, we focus on local production, celebrating the art of craft. This approach allows us to be experimental and innovative, offering a diverse range of products that resonate with our commitment to artisanship.

During a transformative journey to India, our founders were captivated by the depth and richness of Indian artisanship, its history, and the stories embedded within. In Hindi, Katha means stories – tales of craft and indigenous skills that weave into the fabric of our creative process.

In a world inundated with disposable products, Katha strives to meet the growing need for design that communicates and fosters a deeper connection with personal identities. We aspire for the objects we create to bring enhanced value and a profound engagement for both creators and end-users alike. Join us on this journey as we craft stories through design, bridging the gap between tradition and modernity.

Sustainable Production

We have made a choice to be inclusive, sustainable, fair and responsible. Through long term partnership with artisans, Katha reinterprets traditions for a contemporary audience without diluting its spirit and in the process rediscovers innovative, eco-friendly and sustainable materials and practices. Our collections are made in small runs respecting the natural materials and the time taken for hand-finished products.

We work directly with artisans and NGOs to ensure they benefit instead of the middleman. We aim to source the materials for our products sustainably. By producing locally we not only acknowledge local expertise but also work towards establishing safe working conditions and fair payment for our artisans.  Throughout the production process, we create opportunities for our artisans to enhance their skills and realise their full potential.
